County Considers Cutting EDA Funding

St. Clair County may suspend $300,000 in annual funding to the Economic Development Alliance (EDA), raising concerns in Port Huron. Commissioner Robert Fielitz proposed the cut citing transparency issues and lack of communication with local townships. Instead, the county may contract with MSU Extension for economic development. The EDA suggested adding commissioners to its board but required a confidentiality agreement, which officials opposed. With funding frozen, Port Huron businesses await the county’s decision.
