Freed Walks Out

Port Huron City Manager James Freed walked out of Monday’s council meeting after a heated exchange with Mayor Anita Ashford over last-minute changes to agenda items. Ashford tried to remove appointments she had already voted to approve, but Freed and City Clerk Cyndee Jonseck told her it was too late. Tensions escalated when Ashford accused Jonseck of a mistake, prompting Freed to defend staff. After a back-and-forth, Ashford made a remark seemingly aimed at Freed, leading to his exit. Both say they plan to move forward despite the dispute.
