In Sarnia’s Centennial Park, a new purple bench called the Aasha Bench, meaning “hope” in Hindi, aims to connect locals and newcomers. Inspired by Lambton College international students, Sarnia’s Eve Astolfi designed this buddy bench for adults to foster community interactions. Unveiled at the Festival of Cultures, the bench features a QR code linking to a welcome app and a project page. Located near hotels, it offers newcomers a welcoming spot to signal they’re open to conversation and find community support. Sponsors are sought to cover its $2,500 cost.
